Valle Crucis
Valle Crucis
Located deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains
of North Carolina remains Valle Crucis, a
little rural mountain town that has stayed almost
untouched over the years. Valle Crucis (pronounced
Valle-Crew-sis) is also know as the “vale of the cross”,
and is a place like no other. Residents and visitors
alike find that Valle Crucis has a special majestic
quality, and the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains of
North Carolina is unsurpassed.
As of February 2005, Valle Crucis is North Carolina's
first rural historic district, and has been added to
National Registry of Historic Places. There are also
several other nationally recognized historic places in
Valle Crucis. The Mast Farm Inn (1812) and Master
General Store (1883), The Baird House (1790), and the
Old Episcopal Mission (1842) are just a few of the old
historic places that have been restored and remained
untouched throughout the years.
The Valle Crucis area is also known for the lovely bed
and breakfasts that are located all along the community.
There are several bed and breakfasts in the area, many
are located in the historic old homes offering cozy
accommodations.
There is a lot to see and check out in Valle Crucis.
Residents and visitors both enjoy taking bike rides down
by the Watauga River, or checking out the Lower Crab
Orchard Falls near the Valle Crucis Conference Center
(Old Episcopal Mission). You can try just about any
outdoor activity you can think of in Valle Crucis. There
are plenty of places to go NC hiking, horseback riding, and
even white water rafting or just tubing down on the
river. Valle Crucis Community Park is also a great place
to have a picnic and enjoy the area. In the summer,
there are usually music concerts played on Friday nights
in the park. Bring a blanket and enjoy the festivities.
Every year in the fall, Valle Crucis has a Valle Country
Fair complete with craft booths, music, and plenty of
food. It’s always a great time to enjoy the beautiful
fall foliage and crisp mountain air.
There are many great little shops in Valle Crucis as
well. Be sure to go see the Mast General Store and
Annex, which has been in operation since 1883. It’s a
great place to visit to learn more about the history of
Valle Crucis and the Blue Ridge Mountains of North
Carolina. Alta Vista Gallery offers original art
pieces by over 100 local artists and features some
really great pieces.
Valle Crucis is truly a special place. The history and
friendly families make this little mountain community
one of the best places to live in the county. |
