Blowing Rock North Carolina
In an area known as the High Country in Western North
Carolina sits the sleepy little village of Blowing Rock.
Blowing Rock is a popular vacation destination due to
its location in the mountains and proximity to lots of
mountain attractions and outdoor activities. Residents
and visitors both enjoy seeing the gorgeous Western
North Carolina
landscapes and stunning views that can be seen all
around the town of Blowing Rock. With an elevation of
about 3,600 feet, Blowing Rock enjoys cooler
temperatures in the summer and has become a getaway for
people seeking relief from the hotter temperatures off
the mountain. In the winter, the snow falls and the
town looks like something you would see on a mountain
Christmas postcard.
The economy of Blowing Rock continues to flourish. The
permanent population of the town is only about 1,200,
but in the summer and warmer months, that number grows
with the influx of tourists and part time residents.
The schools in Blowing Rock are part of the Watauga County
school system. Blowing Rock elementary school serves
grades K-8 and is an excellent school, and the county’s
record with regards to SAT scores and standardized
testing is among some of the highest in the state of
North Carolina.
Appalachian State University is located just a few miles
away in Boone, and has been nationally recognized twice
by Time Magazine as one of the best liberal arts
colleges in the nation.
Blowing Rock is served by the Blowing Rock Hospital, and just a few miles away in Boone is the Watauga
County Medical Center which provides the county with
medical treatment services.
There are many fun activities in Blowing Rock. A popular
afternoon activity is taking a stroll down Main Street
in downtown Blowing Rock. There are many great shops and
eateries on Main Street and Blowing Rock Park is
located right off the main strip. There are free
concerts during the warmer months in the park, as well
as the very popular Art in the Park event that takes
place every month in the summer (dates vary from year
to year). The newly constructed Miriam and Robert Hayes
Performing Arts Center is also a great place to go and
check out some shows each season. Blowing Rock is
home to popular mountain attractions such as Tweetsie
Railroad and The Blowing Rock. Families love getting
together and spending the day at Tweetsie riding the
train and enjoying the shows.
